Mad Max

Mad Max Minute 53 - You'll be back, Rockatansky!

Max concludes his explanation of why he wants to leave the MFP which prompts Fifi to give Max several weeks of vacation time (not a bad deal when you think about it). Max brings up his worry that he's going to turn into just another crazy person on the road and that prompts us to examine if the officers are really headed down that path. We also discuss the differences and similarities between Fifi and Toecutter's management style.

Mad Max Minute 52 - I sounded good there for a minute

Fifi keeps switching tactics as he tries to convince max to stay on the force, but all Max wants to do is leave. We talk a bit about manipulation tactics, interesting filming angles, and the way music is used in this scene. There's also a tangent where we talk about the importance of having heroes versus having a heroic populace in a society, Batman is mentioned on several occasions.

Mad Max Minute 51 - I didn't come here to discuss it

Monday kicks off with Max reassuring Jessie that he'll sort things out before we see him pay Fifi a visit with resignation-letter-in-hand. We get to see Captain Macaffee in his most comfortable state and hear him take on a harder tone than we've heard before. We bring up Fifi's plant collection, how Goose would have preferred to die and suppose how many times Max has tried to quit in the past.

Mad Max Minute 50 - Peanut butter and honey

Jessie wanders out into the dunes looking for Max and finds him half-heartedly eating a sandwich and grieving over Goose's passing. Week 10 wraps up with us discussing ways to help those that are grieving the loss of a loved one, the amazing combination of peanut butter and honey, and what is arguably Mel Gibson's best scene so far.

Mad Max Minute 49 - That's not the Goose

Max storms out of the hospital after seeing what remains of his best friend, later that night Max is plagued by nightmares which result in Jessie waking up alone in bed the next morning. Roop gets rare praise this minute, we discuss the five stages of grief, and point fingers at who is to blame for Max's bad dreams.

Mad Max Minute 47 - Do it for freedom and the Nightrider!

With Toecutter breathing down his neck, Johnny the Boy is at a major crossroads with Goose's life hanging in the balance. We talk about Toecutter's manipulation tactics, whether Johnny is truly brave or a coward, and mourn Goose's on screen death. Bubba Zanetti is there too.

Mad Max Minute 45 - Larger than life and twice as ugly

It's Goose's last moment of victory as he makes his way back to MFP Headquarters with Midge's Ute. Despite his high spirits, danger is on the horizon as Johnny, Toecutter, and Bubba Zanetti lie in wait to ambush our hero. It's a wild end to week 9 with singing, flooding, stunts, and a request for our listeners.

Mad Max Minute 44 - Don't write off the Goose

Despite his unorthodox take-off Goose manages to stick the landing, though it does not appear that he'll be getting any points from the Olympic judges. Waking up in a daze Goose is forced to seek the aid of his buddy Midge, who proves to be one of the best people we've seen in this movie so far.

Mad Max Minute 43 - [engine noise]: Part 2

It's back on the road for day 2 of Mr. Goose's wild ride. POV shots and ominous close-ups give way to Johnny's sabotage finally bearing fruit. While it's obvious we don't know exactly what was done to Goose's motorcycle, we have a few good ideas. Kudos are also handed out to a few crew members for making this minute possible.

Mad Max Minute 42 - [engine noise]: Part 1

It's a bit overcast, but still a lovely day for a ride, and that's exactly what Goose does. Today's minute is a bit of a mixed bag, with a strong start with some foreshadowing to something about to go awry, but we run up against some questionable filmmaking decisions that really make us wonder what the goal of this sequence really is.

Mad Max Minute 41 - Yeah, baby!

Goose and the Cabaret Singer make a "special connection" as we wrap up our time at the Sugartown Cabaret. The next morning, we catch up with Goose as he suits up and heads out on this motorcycle. We also take a closer look at Licorice Road, complain about barking dogs and loud clothing, and mentally prepare for what is to come.

Mad Max Minute 40 - We have a curfew violation

Week 8 wraps up as Goose once again neglects his sworn duty as an MFP officer to hang out at a nightclub. Little does he know Johnny the Boy is crouched in the shadows, doing something nefarious to Goose's motorcycle. Questions are raised as to what kind of sabotage is being done, Rick complains about people who choose to go barefoot in public, and we discuss late 70's nightclub attire.

Mad Max Minute 39 - Goes to water on a dummy

Johnny gets a little lesson in speaking out of turn as we fade back to Goose, neglecting his police radio at the Sugartown Cabaret. There is a discussion of the appropriate use of profanity, the difficulties involved with filming scenes over the course of a day, and the confusing relationship that Toecutter shares with the members of his gang.

Mad Max Minute 38 - The Bronze, take our pride

Toecutter puts an end to the joviality and vaguely outlines how the gang will handle their police adversaries. We marvel at Toecutter's unwavering sway over the other Acolytes, the idea that being openly challenged by the police is a new thing to them, and we take a closer look at Toecutter's object lesson.

Mad Max Minute 37 - Here he is, the walking armpit

Johnny and Goose have a few more barbs to throw at each other before Bubba is able to drag his compatriot away from the Halls of Justice. From the brick and mortar of the MFP, we transition to a sunny beach where we catch up with the Acolytes as they've found a new friend to keep them occupied.

Mad Max Minute 36 - Get him out of here

It took three days and a weekend, but the tension has finally boiled over as Johnny places the straw that break's the proverbial camel's back and Goose lets him have it. Along the way our heroes tumble through doors in space and time, Roop does his funny run, and we start hearing voices from unknown sources.

Mad Max Minute 35 - This man is grossly offensive!

Fifi's master class in how not to control a situation continues as tempers flare over Johnny's release. There's a lot of discussion about the justice system by two people who are neither lawyers nor experts, so don't take anything as gospel. Goose gets rough, Fifi puts his foot in his mouth, and we identify another crossroad where things could have turned out drastically different.

Mad Max Minute 34 - No one showed. No one

Things are starting to go downhill as Fifi and Max return from the courthouse with Silvertongue and the People's Observer in tow. Also, charlie's cubicle is put under the microscope, Goose gets knocked off of his high horse, and Max struggles to sit on his friend.
