Helen asks if Dryland is beautiful and the Mariner reassures her that she will see for herself. The Mariner heads below deck and rifles through his collection of magazines to find more context for the word pity. When the day breaks, Helen finds The Mariner teaching Enola how to swim. She expresses concern about sea monsters, but the Mariner assuages her fears.
