Waterworld: H2O Minutes - Episode 68 | "Saint Joe, We're Close"

Helen and Gregor are left behind as the Mariner disappears into the night, but Gregor has a plan to help. On the Deez, Nord and the Doc are trying to decipher Enola’s tattoo but come up empty-handed, frustrating the Deacon. On the water, the Mariner cuts through a thick cloud bank and finds himself at the base of a towering wall of rusted metal.

Helen and Gregor help the Mariner prepare for his assault on the Smokers. He asks Gregor about his progress on translating Enola’s tattoo and reveals that the numbers are upside down. The Atoll survivors dispute that the world was flooded but Helen confirms it as truth. The Mariner uses a firebomb to light a trail back to the Smokers’ stronghold.

The Mariner returns to his burned trimaran and finds some of Enola’s drawings. As he looks at these drawings, something clicks and he realizes that Enola must have come from Dryland. Later, at the makeshift Atoll, Smokers arrive and harass the survivors only to be ambushed by the Mariner who has returned to save Enola.

Gregor adds his voice to Helen’s as she pleads with the survivors to rescue Enola, but they fail to convince anyone. Helen approaches the Mariner but finds that he is no more willing to help than the others. She reminds the Mariner that Enola considers him a friend, but that does little to change his mind. He takes supplies from the Atoll survivors and rows away into the night.

Helen is delighted to see Gregor’s arrival but the mood is spoiled by Enola’s absence. Nevertheless, Gregor tosses down a rope and brings both Helen and the Mariner to where the survivors of the Atoll attack have gathered. Later that evening, Helen tries to rally the survivors to go after Enola, but her cries for action fall on deaf ears.

The Mariner tries to give Helen some encouragement to not give up, and not long afterward Gregor arrives in his airship to save them.

Afterward, as the Mariner salvages supplies from the wreckage, Helen ponders the idea of a Dryland that moves.

She asks the Mariner if there is any hope of their survival.

Deacon takes it upon himself to interrogate Enola and decides that the “good cop” approach would work best. To that end, He offers her a cigarette and then a marker. Enola does not respond to either so Deacon begins to explain how his parish is quickly outgrowing the Deez. Enola is quick to point out that population control would help, but Deacon dismisses that idea.

The Mariner and Helen dive below the waves to escape the flurry of bullets from the smokers trying to kill them. Deacon retreats with Enola in tow while the trimaran is put to the torch. Helen begins to panic as she runs out of air, but the Mariner uses his mutation to help her breathe. Helen and the Mariner wait until it’s safe then return to the burned wreck of the trimaran.

Helen and the Mariner keep tight-lipped despite Deacon’s threat of violence. Deacon is surprised by the resiliency of his captives and uses guile to trick Enola into revealing herself. The smokers drag Enola over to the Deacon, and Nord emerges from below decks with an armful of the Mariner’s magazines. Deacon gives the order for Helen and the Mariner to be killed.

Deacon steps forward to introduce himself and demand that Enola be handed over.

Illuminated only by the flares that he’s brought along, The Mariner shows Helen the ghostly remains of the world that once was. He takes her past a city skyline to the street below where he reveals the dirt waiting on the ocean’s floor. On the trimaran, Enola waits by the depth gauge when she suddenly notices two menacing shark fins swim past the boat.

She’s uneasy about leaving Enola unattended so soon after a Smoker attack, but the Mariner points out there’s only enough air for one. Helen enters the diving bell and they begin their descent.

Helen relents and tells him that it’s a map to dryland which he balks at, saying that dryland is a myth because he’s never been able to find it.

The Mariner, Helen, and Enola work together to slip past the Smokers’ closing net. Then, to outrun his pursuers, the Mariner deploys his kite spinnaker for a boost of speed. Deacon grabs a rifle from an underling and shoots the Mariner through the torso, leaving a blood trail for his tracker sharks to follow.

The Mariner discovers the trap a bit too late and as he makes a run for it, Nord signals a troupe of Smokers to spring into action to ensnare the Trimaran.

The Mariner uses his lifetime of experience in the water to give Enola a lesson in the basics of swimming, which she quickly masters. The scene fades to the Trimaran approaching a trading outpost. Helen is concerned, but the Mariner insists that they need to stop for repairs, but as they draw closer the Mariner begins to suspect that there is something wrong.

She expresses concern about sea monsters, but the Mariner assuages her fears.

The Mariner relents and hands the crayon back to Helen.
